Quest for a "Sustainable Home"
Think of a house... its dependency on utility services is minimized, and so is the inhabitants' dependency on supermarkets and grocery stores... What would be an optimized size of land for such a living facility?
Those of you with some experience or memories with rural style of living must have thought of the life before 1950s. What's the difference now then, if any? This time we are to take into account the needs involved in the modern life and integrate them to a semi-rural household, in this attempt to propose an alternative house design. The size of sufficient land is only one of the components to be optimized, among many other aspects of such a house which will require considering.
Initially it seems like this page will serve as a base for brainstorming. Here are a few bullets to think about and discuss:
- Do we really need refrigerators? Or what portion of it do we need in fact? Let's put together a breakdown of types of food we keep in them for different purposes. When the household involves functions such as growing vegetables in part of its backyard and feeding a few chicken, enabling fresh food daily, how would that influence refrigerator use?
- Rain water harvesting, storing, and utilization
- Solar electric, of course, but not limited to this technique. What else then? ...
